THE FRIDAY FACE-OFF #5: Heart

friday-face-off-2c1

Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme here at Books by Proxy. Join me every Friday as I pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe.

Hey everyone! I’m joining in this new book meme called “The Friday Face-Off” which is hosted by Books by Proxy and this week’s theme is: HEART!!!

For this week, since we are a week away from October, I have decided to choose Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tale “The Tell-Tale Heart” in time for Halloween!  So here are some covers for this week:

Original Printing – 1843

16091727

Creative Education– 1980

899492

Spanish Version– 2013

27268307

And the winner is…

899492

This was another tough one this week!  All of these covers looked so awesome, but I ended up picking the 1980s version of the cover.  So creepy, especially the fact that the character on the cover is actually holding a real heart in his hands and I really loved the red coloring in the background that really brings out the creepy nature of this story!

THE FRIDAY FACE-OFF #4: City

friday-face-off-2c1

Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme here at Books by Proxy. Join me every Friday as I pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe.

Hey everyone! I’m joining in this new book meme called “The Friday Face-Off” which is hosted by Books by Proxy and this week’s theme is: CITY!!!

For this week, I have decided to choose Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones from the Mortal Instruments series and compare the two and choose which one I like the best!

Margaret K. McElderry Books – 2007

256683

Margaret K. McElderry Books – 2013

16074780

Artemis Yayinlari – 2014

8409368

And the winner is…

16074780

I’ve chosen the movie cover (the second cover) because it is the most dazzling and creative of the three covers.  I loved the way that you have the modern day city on the top of the cover and in the water, you have a castle the reflects the city and I just loved the way that the castle reflects in the water, giving this cover an extremely mysterious yet beautiful feel!

Down the TBR Hole #1

Down the TBR Hole

Hey everyone! I just saw this interesting book meme on It’s All About Books’ post, which was started on Secret Library, which was started on Lost in a Story and I was really interested in this meme since my TBR shelf is getting way out of hand at this point and it’s time for me to do some cleaning out on my TBR shelf!

RULES:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

So, here’s my first 10 books from my TBR pile that I’m going to go through!

  1. Vampire Knight Volume 3 by Matsuri Hino

Vampire Knight Volume 3

VERDICT:

KEEP

I just read the first two volumes in this series and I’ve enjoyed them, so I’ll keep this volume on my shelf so I can read the rest of this series.

2. Shattered: The Sectarian Divide and Start of the Feminist Revolution in Islam by Syed Abbas Rizvi

Shattered

VERDICT:

GO

At the moment, I’m not in the mood to read any nonfiction books, especially the ones that deal with war, so this one has to go.

3.  The Brides’ Fair by Hal Fleming

The Brides' Fair

VERDICT:

GO

Another nonfiction book that deals with terrorism that I’m not in the mood to read, so this one is going too.

4. Teddy the Bear by Billy Young

Teddy the Bear

VERDICT:

KEEP

I was about to take this off my shelf, until I read the description and it sounds pretty interesting! Hopefully, I’ll get around to reading it soon!

5.  An Affair of Concoctions by Eamon Loingsigh

An Affair of Concoctions

VERDICT:

KEEP

Another book I was about to take off my shelf until I saw the description and it does sound like an intriguing book to check out, despite the really short summary.

6.  Celia’s Puppies by Claudia Hall Christian

Celia's Puppies

VERDICT:

GO

I’m just probably not in the mood at the moment to check this book out.  Maybe much later I might check this book out, but at the moment, this book has got to go.

7. Definitely Digital! by Thomas Palfy

Definitely Digital

VERDICT:

GO

Another nonfiction book that I am not interested in and I’m not into reading books about photography, so this one is going off the shelf.

8.  Postal Seance:  A Scientific Investigation into the Possibility of a Postlife Postal Existence by Henrik Drescher

Postal Seance

VERDICT:

KEEP

Henrik Drescher is one of my all-time favorite authors and I’ve been dying to check this book out for sometime, so definitely keeping this!

9.  Great Day for Up by Dr. Seuss

Great Day for Up

VERDICT:

KEEP

I actually own this book and I’ve been meaning to re read this book for some time now, so this will stay on the shelf.

10. The Green Bronze Mirror by Lynne Ellison

The Green Bronze Mirror

VERDICT:

GO

I never was a fan of children’s books that delve into time traveling history (except for the Time Warp Trio series), so this one is going off the shelf.

TOTAL NUMBER OF BOOKS REMOVED:  5

TOTAL NUMBER OF BOOKS KEPT:  5

TOTAL BOOKS LEFT ON TBR SHELF:  567
