This Or That Book Tag!

I saw this tag at It’s All About Books and I wanted to give it a shot!  So, here are my answers for this tag!

Reading on the couch or on the bed?

I love reading on the bed since it’s more comfortable and I have enough room to spread my books around!

Male main character or female main character?

It doesn’t really matter to me, as long as the character is interesting, although I have read more books with female main characters than male main characters.

Sweet snacks or salty snacks when reading?

I enjoy eating sweets whenever I’m reading, especially any snack with peanut butter in it!

Trilogies or quartets?

It all depends on what kind of story they are telling and how long the story needs to be to wrap up, although I probably choose trilogies because they’re shorter to read through.

First person point of view or third person point of view?

I don’t mind reading first person point of view since we actually get inside the main character’s mind, but I prefer third person point of view because we have a better understanding of what character is being introduced in the story.

Reading at night or in the morning?

I enjoy reading at night more since I would have more time during the night to read rather than during the day.

Libraries or bookstore?

I actually like both since I would get books either way, although with bookstores, I can actually buy the book I’m interested in!

Books that make you laugh or make you cry?

Books that make me laugh since I don’t usually read books that are too depressing.

Black book covers or white book covers?

Either one is fine as long as the cover is beautiful to look at.

Character-driven or plot-driven stories?

I prefer both since I think that a good story needs both plot driven and character driven stories to make it work.

And I nominate….

EVERYONE!

Anyone who’s interested in doing this tag are free to do it!

Book Discussions: Awesome Children’s Library Designs!

dcrnedKc9

Hello everyone! Welcome to another Bookish Discussions!  Today’s discussion is going to be on “Awesome Children’s Library Designs!”

If there’s one thing that’s as good as reading books is having the perfect designs for your favorite libraries!  Here are some of my favorite designs from various children’s libraries!

  1. Laramie County Library @ Cheyenne, WY

I just loved the fact that there is a little train going through the library and a little playground for the kids to play on while they check out books from the library!

2. Imaginon Branch Library @ Charlotte, NC

This is seriously one of the most creatively structured libraries I had ever seen as the castle setting really made this library stand out!

3. Franklin Lakes  Public Library @ New Jersey

I just love the outside of this little library!

4. Children’s Library, Central Public Library @ Singapore

I just loved the tree theme of this library and it just makes this children’s library look so exotic!

5. Brentwood Library

So, what are some of your favorite children’s library designs? Please feel free to respond!

Book Discussions: Where’s your favorite place to read?

dcrnedKc9

Hello everyone! Welcome to another Bookish Discussions!  Today’s discussion is going to be on “Where’s Your Favorite place to read?”

Whenever it comes to reading, it’s nice to have a place where you feel most comfortable reading your books and that’s why I have two places where I enjoy reading my books!

First place I like to read my books are by a window, especially whenever it starts raining. I enjoy looking outside and seeing the beauty of nature while also reading my book and seeing nature in all its glory at the same time. The second place I like to read at is out in an open field or somewhere in a park that has an open field.  I can get a chance to enjoy actually being out in nature whenever I am out in an open field and read my books to my heart’s content!

So, where’s your favorite place to read? Please feel free to respond!

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1988)

Title: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Author: Washington Irving

Illustrator: Robert Van Nutt

Year Published: 1988

Publisher: Rabbit Ears Books

Genre: Horror, Folktale, Drama, Romance

Reading Level: Children

Availability:  Goodreads / Amazon (DVD)

Teaser Tuesday Synopsis

When Ichabod Crane becomes the new schoolmaster of Sleepy Hollow, he quickly and happily adjusts to the local ways. He delights in the bountiful dinners he’s served when visiting the prosperous farms of the region; he enjoys the local yarns and scary legends that fill the firelit evenings of autumn; and he comes to love the idea of marrying Katrina Van Tassel and of one day owning her father’s wealth and lands. There’s one problem with his plans, though: Brom Bones, the local hero, who decided long ago to wed Katrina himself. And now, to his annoyance, this pasty-faced bookworm named Ichabod is making a serious bid. This droll tale of romantic rivalry climaxes with the appearance of the Headless Horseman. The spirited narration by Glenn Close, radiant illustrations by Robert Van Nutt, and original music by Tim Story capture all the wit, fun, and shivers of this early American tale. In 1988 the audio was honored with a Grammy nomination in the category of best recording for children.

Teaser Tuesday

“He was tall, but exceedingly lank, with narrow shoulders, long arms and legs, hands that dangled a mile out of his sleeves, feet that might have served for shovels, and his whole frame most loosely hung together. His head was small, and flat at top, with huge ears, large green glassy eyes, and a long snipe nose, so that it looked like a weather-cock perched upon his spindle neck to tell which way the wind blew. To see him striding along the profile of a hill on a windy day, with his clothes bagging and fluttering about him, one might have mistaken him for the genius of famine descending upon the earth, or some scarecrow eloped from a cornfield.”

I honestly love this story! Glenn Close’s narration is perfect for this story and the music and illustrations are truly beautiful!  I think this  is Rabbit Ears’ scariest story ever made!

Do you have a book that you are currently reading that you would like to show to everyone else?  Please feel free to post your Teaser Tuesday in the comments below and I’ll check them out!

Hey everyone…I came to work this Sunday morning and I found out a great tragedy has happened:  there was a massive shooting in an Orlando nightclub that claimed the lives of over 50 people. I am just shocked beyond words and I cannot believe that such a hate crime would go up to such an all time high. May we pray for the victims of this horrific shooting.

“Ahoy there, Lord Pegleg!” cried the Fool. “Why are you hopping on one foot?”

“And what would you have do on one foot?” the man asked. “Pirouette? Besides, if I were to untie my other foot I would move too fast for anyone to see me. Why, I would trip over the equator in one stride.”

“That’s pretty quick,” the Fool said.

“If you think that’s quick,” the man replied, “you should have seen me before the old arthritis set in.”

Wow! This story is amazing!  I just loved Henrik Drescher’s illustrations and Robin Williams’ narration is hilarious to listen to!  It’s great hearing Robin Williams’ voice again.

Book Discussions: Do you have a TBR Jar?

dcrnedKc9

Hello everyone! Welcome to another Bookish Discussions!  Today’s discussion is going to be on “Do You Have a TBR Jar?”

TBR Jar

It’s hard trying to read books that you want to read, but every time you add a new book to your TBR shelf, you either don’t have time to  read all of those books or you just keep adding new books to your shelf and the TBR list just keeps growing!  So, how do you handle this?  Well, after reading this wonderful post from It’s All About Books, I got the idea to just make a TBR jar where I just randomly choose the color of pieces of paper from the jar and whatever color I tend to grab from the jar will be the book I will read from my TBR pile!  Seems simple enough, right?

Well, I think that if you have any kind of strategy that will help you get through your ever growing TBR shelf, then this strategy seems like a pretty effective way in doing it!

So, do you have a TBR Jar? Please feel free to respond!
